Media Center>Anyone Doing 3D Printing?
Otter 11:01 AM 01-16-2021
I'm in the process of purchasing a 3d printer. This thread will follow my journey as I learn to 3d print. Below I found a good guide on YouTube for an overview with additional videos on the channel for more in depth and specific topics.

Beginner Guide (Good watch):

Good Budget Printer ~$200: https://amzn.to/2XdlFJ1

Website for premade designs: https://www.thingiverse.com/

Spice rack and Chiefs emblem are on the top of the priority list.

Good (free software) for designing for your own: https://www.autodesk.com/products/fusion-360/personal

Cool shit https://www.reddit.com/r/3Dprinting/

Please post tips, etc. if you have any

My son printed me the case and bought the electronic parts for a portable M12 pinecil power supply. Its pretty slick for small electronic parts soldering like guitar pots and pickups and other odds and ends.

He also printed a tabletop smoking pipe holder and various pipe stems. Also 2 wireless internet child nodes wall mounts and a corner wall mount for a child node. Gets them off tables freeing up space.

So now I know what to get him for Christmas. He and his buddy use his dads Prusa printers. I had no idea useful stuff was being created with this.

I printed a pipboy from fallout and painted it for my son for his birthday. Pretty happy with this one.

I can't remember if I shared this one before either, but last year I made a major award.

:-)

You could probably make a nice little side gig out of selling those pups the next 30 days or so.

Did you scan your controller on your own or find a scan out there in the world? I'm figuring out the extreme basics of 3D modeling, but creating a model of an existing object seems pretty daunting. Curious if you bought a scanner, used a phone app, or what.

Nah, I simply downloaded it from Printables.

Conveniently, he included a video showing exactly how he scanned it...

Cool, fair enough. Now I just need to find someone who has modeled the dimensions of the under-infotainment center console of my RAV4. :-)

(Don't think it's out there, but I'll keep hunting...)
