Kris Kristofferson died yesterday at 88.

A surprising number of folks don't know that as a young man, he was an Army officer, a helicopter pilot, and a graduate of Ranger School.

He understood patriotism and service, which is why it pissed him off when fake patriots co-opted…

He is one of my all time favorites. I had no idea he ever was in the military, RIP. 😢

He is a former United States Army Rangers captain. He graduated Airborne School, Ranger School, and flight school, served in Germany, and volunteered for Vietnam as a helicopter pilot, but instead was offered a professor of English Literature position at USMA West Point.

He was an amazing man. A little known fact he was a Rhodes Scholar and attended Oxford. He also volunteered for active duty in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot when he graduated from Westpoint. The Army made him a helicopter instructor instead. Absolutly one of the greatest Folk and Country songwriters this country has produced. We lost a good one.

RIP to Marvin "Shake" Tiller. Co-star of the greatest football movie ever made.

Just occurred to me that Burt Reynolds starred in the TWO greatest football movies ever made.

1. Semi-Tough
2. The Longest Yard
